Refitting of Dentures- Denture Relines

Your mouth changes over time just like the rest of your body. When natural teeth are missing the jawbone is no longer stimulated in that area and the bone shrinks (resorbs) causing dentures to become loose. With this shrinkage, upper and lower jaws may not line up properly putting a strain on your jaw joints. Loose dentures impact on your ability to chew effectively and can possibly affect your overall health because of digestion problems linked to chewing.

Relines are required when gums change as a result of weight loss, extractions, bone loss, aging, disease or illness.

If your dentures are loose, they may require a reline. Worn or ill-fitting dentures don’t always need to be replaced. Relining can usually be done the same day. It consists of adding more material to the fitting surface of your denture, so it fits properly. Relining affects only the fit of your denture and will not address denture tooth wear or appearance.

Call Battell Denture Clinic to book your free consultation to have the fit and function of your dentures evaluated and to see if a denture reline is right for you!
